Dear Parents,
I would like to thank you for your co-operation during the last few weeks, and for completing the homework survey. The results are as follows for this class: 46% found the work perfect, 30% wanted more, and 24% wanted less. As you can see, this is quite a range of responses. This is to be expected, as every child has a different learning pace, different interests and different abilities. Lots of children benefit from routine and for that reason, we have tried to continue with homework as usual to provide some normality for the children. We also understand that some children are sharing technology with other siblings and that many parents are trying to work from home. We do not want to add any extra stress or pressure to pupils/parents during these already difficult times. We would like to remind all parents that the work we provide is merely a suggestion of work that you could do with your child. By no means is it required for children to complete all aspects of work. Whilst it is important that children try their best with these activities, it is no problem if they cannot be completed. Below, you'll find the work laid out for the week ahead. I would advise to do English, Maths and learning homework everyday, now spread out over 5 days (including Friday). Irish & SESE activities will be listed in the extra box at the bottom. We often find in school that those children who are finished first, often find errors when they're encouraged to check over their work. Neatness, and careful presentation is probably more beneficial than completing large quantities of work that require correction. Those who complete all activities could do further reading, keep a diary or do some creative writing. We now have a new blog page dedicated to extra/fun activities that your child could choose some further work from. Thank you for your genuine responses to the survey. I hope the adjustments we've outlined below will help you in the week ahead. Kind Regards, Ms Mc Manus
