Dear Parents,
I would like to thank you for your co-operation during the last few weeks, and for completing the homework survey. The results are as follows for this class: 46% found the work perfect, 30% wanted more, and 24% wanted less. As you can see, this is quite a range of responses. This is to be expected, as every child has a different learning pace, different interests and different abilities. Lots of children benefit from routine and for that reason, we have tried to continue with homework as usual to provide some normality for the children. We also understand that some children are sharing technology with other siblings and that many parents are trying to work from home. We do not want to add any extra stress or pressure to pupils/parents during these already difficult times. We would like to remind all parents that the work we provide is merely a suggestion of work that you could do with your child. By no means is it required for children to complete all aspects of work. Whilst it is important that children try their best with these activities, it is no problem if they cannot be completed. Below, you'll find the work laid out for the week ahead. I would advise to do English, Maths and learning homework everyday, now spread out over 5 days (including Friday). Irish & SESE activities will be listed in the extra box at the bottom. We often find in school that those children who are finished first, often find errors when they're encouraged to check over their work. Neatness, and careful presentation is probably more beneficial than completing large quantities of work that require correction. Those who complete all activities could do further reading, keep a diary or do some creative writing. We now have a new blog page dedicated to extra/fun activities that your child could choose some further work from. Thank you for your genuine responses to the survey. I hope the adjustments we've outlined below will help you in the week ahead. Kind Regards, Ms Mc Manus

Hello Girls, It's hard to believe that it's the start of another week. If we had been in school, we'd be getting Easter Holidays this coming Friday! I hope you're all enjoying the school work, it's good to have a bit of routine. One to two hours of school work is really enough while you're at home from school. Remember, if you're finding any of the tasks hard, ask your mam or dad if you can call a friend for help! That's exactly what I've been doing, when trying to get some new ideas for your homework here. The extra time at home is a good opportunity to practice some of the hobbies, you normally wouldn't have time for. I know lots of you are excellent at drawing, art, baking, gymnastics, crochet and music to name but a few. Continue to practice these, you'll be experts by the time you get back to school. I've been learning how to knit socks on youtube videos....I wont lie...there's been more ripping out than knitting!...one down another one to go! I've also been doing lots of reading, and going for a walk every day. Good luck with the activities for this week. Help your parents around the house, and remember to keep your distance if out getting exercise, at least 2 metres apart. Keep washing your hands, and stay safe. Ms Mc Manus Monday

Hello Everyone! We hope you got on alright with your work this week. Good luck with your spelling test today. Below you'll see the answers to Reading Zone and Maths Satellite Book questions. Self-correct and see how you got on. You could have a go at doing some corrections if you got any of them incorrect. Don't worry if something is difficult, you're trying your best and that's all that matters. We'll put up some new homework for next week on Monday. Have a lovely weekend. Enjoy the rest. PLease The 5th class teachers have divided the learning activities up on a timetable to make them more manageable. Please don’t leave everything to be completed until the end of the week. Learning is more successful if completed in chunks, with revision of topics daily. Do your best to complete the activities, but if for some reason this is not possible, that’s ok. Remember to keep healthy and stay safe! We’ve also included some extra activities should any child feel that they might like to do some further learning. Please note these are optional. There are pictures below of the Reading Zone pages. Some pupils were not at school Thursday and may not have that book. All other books should be in your schoolbag! Wed 18th March
